The Program - the Way ECR Works

ECR is what is known as a hybrid program. That is, the way that you engage in ECR and take your journey with us  uses two different systems of your (and our) involvement. It's not complicated, so please stay with us.

A very important aspect of ECR is that any human change requires knowing a little more about 'what is the process of change?' and 'what sort of human traits are subject to this change (reframing)?'

Because the truth and facts about our human unconscious states of emotion, and the issues around the 'silence' of preverbal causes are very much unacknowledged by our psychotherapeutic professions, it is important that you at least get some new knowledge of the very aspect of self that you are aiming to improve.

Prior to the ability to deliver such information in digital form, ECR practitioners, and their forebears, "Af-x practitioners" were required to deliver what amounted to mini-tutorials within the face-to-face engagement sessions. Apart from the fact that this proved tiresome for clients and sometimes resulted in confusion because of the time constraints, we have welcomed the ability to replace those lengthy personal deliveries with an online delivery of similar informative material.

So, two very positive and useful issues derived from our new approach to information delivery:

  1. it enabled more relaxed but focused attention as clients were able to go through this material in the comfort of their own homes, and

  2. it allowed for the reach of ECR to be extended beyond previous regional constraints. This means that anyone comfortable to use free video communication (Skype) would have access to this hybrid style of work without having to make a pilgrimage to any one of the ECR practitioners scattered around the globe.

Before you begin the process of ECR, you need to choose which method you are interested in. Of course, if you are not located close to any ECR-qualified practitioners, your choice is an obvious one unless you aim to travel to them. Your choice would be to utilize Skype. In any case, this would be your primary concern and require discussion with your chosen practitioner.

In this box below, we summarize the main points of process, followed below it, by some details that you might need or like to know ...

Notes about the 5 stages mentioned above:

Stage 1:

you may already have been in contact with an ECR practitioner as a result of either referral from a third party, or from having visited their personal ECR site (and been directed to this site).

Stage 2:

or 'return' to that practitioner's communication thread.

Stage 3:

your chosen practitioner will give you the links (URLs) for the two videos you will be asked to watch, at your leisure. You will also receive an ePamphlet that you may read (optional, but highly recommended). Your practitioner is there to help you at any point, and answer questions (and vice versa) about the contents of the DPM. In the videos and the ePamphlet, Ian White explains the importance of 'introversive privacy' - the 'client-silence' and lack of symptom discussion that is a hallmark of ECR and affectology.

Stage 4:

you may be asked some short questions about the DPM by your practitioner during stage 4, and of course, this is an opportunity to clear up any issues you may have about the material presented in the DPM.

For those whose sessions are to take place in the practitioner's clinic, stage 4 may consist of a preliminary telephone call and discussion to prepare you for session work.

For those who will be communicating with their practitioner via Skype, this Stage 4 will be by Skype chat.

Stage 5:

this 'engagement' stage of ECR consists of three sessions with your practitioner. Details of how to set up your Skype sessions will be supplied by your practitioner in Stage 4. For those attending clinical rooms, simply follow your practitioner's advice and instructions for appointment attendance.

Stage 1: From the contact page or the 'therapists' page of the ECR main site, contact Ian White to inquire about available ECR Master Practitioners

Stage 2: Send an email to that practitioner, and he or she will advise as to how to proceed

Stage 3: You will be "sent to" video presentations that inform you of aspects of 'unconscious affect development' that we feel are important for your education in what is a quite unusual approach to psychotherapy. You will also receive an ePamphlet for a parallel and additional reason. This is what is known as the DPM - Digital Preparatory Module. Think of it as the Online Preparation

Stage 4: After you've finished the DPM, you will return to your practitioner, who will answer any questions you may have about the DPM's material.

Stage 5: Appointments will be made for the 'reframing sessions' that constitute the 'personal engagement' aspect of ECR (whether face-to-face in the practitioner's clinical rooms, or via Skype).

Finalizing

At completion of your sessions, you and your practitioner may discuss whether you feel comfortable to participate in ECR's feedback research that takes place several months after completion. This is entirely optional. Many people in the past have commented on this feedback program seeming to "give the process closure" in a personal way.

This new ECR "cybersystem" is UNDER DEVELOPMENT.

It is presently unavailable as described in this site's pages. But it's COMING SOON!

Bookmark this site and check soon.

In the meantime, contact Ian White and ask about ECR/Af-x practitioners in your region ... thanks.
